The AMA Biennale of Arts: Art, Architecture, and Urban Regeneration in MaddaloniThe AMA Biennale of Arts (Art + Maddaloni + Architecture) is born in Maddaloni, a historic town in the province of Caserta. This festival, strongly championed by the Municipality of Maddaloni under the artistic direction of Luca Molinari, is dedicated to the city’s urban and cultural regeneration through contemporary art, design, and architecture. The inaugural edition of AMA will take place from March 28 to April 21, 2025, transforming the streets and historic landmarks of Maddaloni into an exhibition stage for 80 leading figures, including nationally and internationally renowned artists, architects, photographers, and designers. The inaugural theme, “New Narratives (for the Future),” invites an exploration of original visions for an era in transition and will be further investigated through 10 scheduled events, including exhibitions, installations, and performances. The AMA Biennale of Arts represents an innovative cultural format capable of bringing together some of the finest expressions of contemporary arts and architecture. In doing so, it initiates an unprecedented dialogue between the most significant practices of our time and the millennial history of the Maddaloni territory. The AMA festival revives the city’s creative spirit, continuing the legacy of the International Graphics Biennale of 1985 and 1988, which was dedicated to the memory of Franco Imposimato, tragically killed in Maddaloni in a mafia ambush. Nearly forty years later, “Art against all mafias” remains the festival’s ambitious and tangible objective. The project aims to promote culture as an instrument for social, economic, and urban regeneration, establishing Maddaloni as a hub for artistic and architectural production. As a preview to the Biennale, the mural “Senza Riparo” (Without Shelter) by Argentine artist Francisco Bosoletti was inaugurated in Piazza Matteotti in October 2024, during the Art Days week. Painted on the facade of the future Municipality of Maddaloni headquarters, the work draws inspiration from the city’s historical artifacts, creating a dialogue between past and future.
