The exhibition Preziose Miniature “Precious Miniatures” will open on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM in the prestigious Salone Borromini at the Biblioteca Vallicelliana, a majestic expression of Roman Baroque architecture.Designed by Francesco Borromini in the seventeenth century to house the library of the Oratorian Fathers, the hall is renowned for its imposing stucco-coated wooden coffered ceiling and the historic bookshelves safeguarding roughly 28,000 antique volumes. This historical setting offers an evocative and profound backdrop for the contemporary artworks on display.Within this space, 66 artists from various regions of Italy, alongside international practitioners, present their work. The guiding theme of the exhibition is the small format, through which the artists interpret a contemporary vision inherently mediated by the small screens of our smartphones. The result is an atomized perspective of reality, articulated here through artistic creation. An artist for artists, Stefania Balestri gathers these “atoms” into a cohesive project that unites them like pixels forming a single image on a screen.Like a kaleidoscope, the works maintain their distinct individuality while simultaneously composing a unified whole. The project thus shapes a collective dialogue—an opportunity to share art, generate empathy, and forge connections, fostering exchange and engagement through the discovery of the other. Bringing their professional expertise to the prompt, the artists have produced a rich variety of works: small sculptures, miniature artist books, tiny paintings and photographs, delicate embroideries, woven textiles, small creatures, shells harboring mermaids, small boxes containing entire worlds, cubes full of surprises, and even a miniature library.Amid this diversity, the final effect is a singular ensemble that highlights the preciousness inherent in small things. Indeed, scaled-down objects possess deeply revelatory qualities—much like toys for children, which help them better comprehend reality through their need to master it. The miniature serves as an invitation to look at details and to observe more closely, in a society where impatience and haste often push us past the present, depriving us of the very moment we are living.
